About Alex Ford, DO, RD
Dr. Alex Ford is a board-certified family physician and registered dietitian dedicated to advancing whole‑person health through evidence‑based medicine, nutrition, and community education. He currently practices at Community Care Physicians in Rotterdam, NY, where he provides comprehensive primary care, leads nutritional counseling for patients, and serves as an in‑house resource for weight management and obesity medicine concerns.
With dual training in medicine and nutrition, Dr. Ford brings a uniquely integrated approach to patient care. He is certified by both the American Board of Family Medicine and the American Osteopathic Board of Family Practice, and he incorporates osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) into his clinical work when appropriate.
A Foundation in Medicine, Nutrition & Teaching
Dr. Ford completed his residency at the Cleveland Clinic Family Medicine Residency Program, where he also served as Chief Resident, coordinating educational programming, facilitating resident development, and supporting program leadership.
Before becoming a physician, he earned his Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics from SUNY Buffalo State and worked as a Public Health Nutritionist for the New York State Department of Health, contributing to WIC program policy, training, and nutrition initiatives statewide.
His passion for education continues today. Dr. Ford is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at Albany Medical College, where he teaches and mentors future physicians.
Leadership, Advocacy & Community Engagement
Dr. Ford is deeply committed to community health and health equity. He has served as a columnist for The DO, writing on diversity in medicine and the experiences of underrepresented minorities in the medical field.
He is also the longtime Director of Medical Education for 4th Family Inc., where he develops health curricula, leads nutrition seminars, and mentors youth in the Capital Region.
In addition, he volunteers as a ringside physician for USA Boxing, ensuring athlete safety through pre‑ and post‑bout evaluations and emergency readiness.

Dr. Ford is a frequent speaker, panelist, and media contributor, sharing insights on preventive health, nutrition, and public health. His speaking engagements span national medical conferences, NBA and WNBA events, academic institutions, and community health forums.
